At the time of the incident, cargo suspected of containing hazardous chemicals in the terminal area caught fire, sending thick black smoke billowing into the air. The main items burned were ISO tank containers. Local police said that, as of now, a total of 51 ISO tank containers and one DG (dangerous goods) container had been destroyed by fire at the scene. The fire area was located in the DG block at Berth 820 of the NPCT1 terminal, and further details are still under investigation.

According to nearby residents, a huge explosion was heard before the fire broke out, and the sound reached the coastal residential area of Kalibaru. After the explosion, open flames and a black column of smoke shot high into the sky. A local resident said, “The explosion was very loud, and the smoke it produced was very black.”

NPCT1 said the fire caused no casualties. At present, the terminal is gradually resuming operations in the affected area. The North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) and its Thousand Islands branch dispatched 14 fire trucks and 70 personnel to the scene to respond. Firefighters continued cooling operations to extinguish the remaining fire and prevent the further spread of chemicals.

The specific cause of the accident and the extent of losses are still awaiting further official confirmation.
